Magnetic Kronig-Penney model for Dirac electrons in single-layer graphene

چکیده
The properties of Dirac electrons in a magnetic superlattice (SL) on graphene consisting of very high and thin (δ-function) barriers are investigated. We obtain the energy spectrum analytically and study the transmission through a finite number of barriers. The results are contrasted with those for electrons described by the Schrödinger equation. In addition, a collimation of an incident beam of electrons is obtained along the direction perpendicular to that of the SL. We also highlight the analogy with optical media in which the refractive index varies in space. Magnetic Kronig-Penney model for Dirac electrons in single-layer graphene 2

Single-layer and bilayer graphene superlattices: collimation, additional Dirac points and Dirac lines.
We review the energy spectrum and transport properties of several types of one-dimensional superlattices (SLs) on single-layer and bilayer graphene. In single-layer graphene, for certain SL parameters an electron beam incident on an SL is highly collimated. On the other hand, there are extra Dirac points generated for other SL parameters. Using rectangular barriers allows us to find analytical ...
متن کاملKronig-Penney model on bilayer graphene: Spectrum and transmission periodic in the strength of the barriers
We show that the transmission through single and double -function potential barriers of strength P =VWb / vF in bilayer graphene is periodic in P with period . For a certain range of P values we find states that are bound to the potential barrier and that run along the potential barrier. Similar periodic behavior is found for the conductance. The spectrum of a periodic succession of -function b...
متن کاملThe electronic properties of graphene
This article reviews the basic theoretical aspects of graphene, a one-atom-thick allotrope of carbon, with unusual two-dimensional Dirac-like electronic excitations. The Dirac electrons can be controlled by application of external electric and magnetic fields, or by altering sample geometry and/or topology. The Dirac electrons behave in unusual ways in tunneling, confinement, and the integer qu...
متن کاملTopological effects and particle physics analogies beyond the massless Dirac-Weyl fermion in graphene nanorings
Armchair and zigzag edge terminations in planar hexagonal and trigonal graphene nanorings are shown to underlie one-dimensional topological states associated with distinctive energy gaps and patterns (e.g., linear dispersion of the energy of an hexagonal ring with an armchair termination versus parabolic dispersion for a zigzag terminated one) in the bands of the tight-binding spectra as a func...
